Description : Kalinga Mahotsav or the National Festival of Martial Dance is celebrated to mark the victory of peace over war. In essence, the Kalinga Mahotsav pays tribute to the Buddhist philosophy of winning people's heart through Dharma than conquering land by force.

It shows the vibrant traditions of martial art of India through dance and music. It is in the essence to mark the victory of peace over war. It took place on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar at Dhauli Shanti Stupa. Twenty three hundred years ago, their fore fathers fought one of the fiercest battles in human history against Emperor Ashok. Kalinga Mahotsav is one of the most famous festivals of Orissa. It holds great religious significance for people. The aim of this festival is to encourage people to follow the path of peace and calm, rather than fighting amongst themselves. It is organized by Art Vision. They suffered loss of a hundred thousand men, lost the war, but gained immortality, because they metamorphosed a warring monarch into an apostle of non-violence and peace. The festival is a fitting tribute to the victory of Peace over War where renowned dancers of India perform harmonising the vigour of martial art with sublime dance forms.
