Kolha
The most important tribe of Keonjhar is the Kolha tribe. They live in the Bhuyan hills and in the adjaccent religion, namely Nayagarh and Chamakpur. These Kolha tribes converse with each other in various languages like Hindi and Oriya, Hindi and English as a subsidiary language. They used their own tribal dialect which is used to converse with the people of this community. <br>They appear to have migrated to Keonjhar from the North east during the last century. Handia, a type of fermented liquor, is a favorite drink of these Kolha tribes and take delight in killing animals and birds with the aid of bow and arrow. By nature, these Kolha tribes are quite shy and introvert. ,br>It is evident that majority of the Kolhas follow Hindu Customs and rites. But the tribes hold the "Sajana" tree, Paddy, mustard oil and the dog in special veneration. The breaking of straw is considered as the final adjustment of a compact. Mostly these people serve the well-to-do agriculturists as mulias or field labourers and are generally paid in advance by their sahas or masters.
